The dryer weather this season is wreaking havoc on your skin. Sometimes it is obvious, and often you don't even realize. Just as we love to layer during the winter months, we need to layer on the care for our skin. When it comes to your skincare routine, proper layering is crucial whether you keep things simple or have a multi-step routine.
Step 1: Cleanser: Wash your face with a gentle, hydrating cleanser to remove any leftover makeup and excess oils from the skin.
Step 2: Toner: Use a toner to rebalance your skin’s pH levels and to prep it for the serum and moisturizers.
Step 3: Serum: You can layer any serum, whether you use a hyaluronic acid serum for extra hydration or vitamin C serum to target dark spots. Let your serums fully absorb before moving on to the next step!
Step 4: Eye Creams: This area is thinner and more sensitive than the rest of the face, so make sure to use an eye cream that’s extra moisturizing.
Step 5: Moisturizer/Facial Oil: The right moisturizer should keep your skin hydrated throughout the day and protect against any environmental stressors.
Step 6: Spot Treatment: If you’re experiencing any acne, use a spot treatment to help dissolve the blockage that caused the blemish.
Step 7: Sunscreen: To wrap up your routine, protect your skin against UV damage and with at least SPF 30 or higher.
To enhance the process, we added three steps to our self-care routine. Many of us have two types of shower routines: the quick hair and/or body wash, or the long shower where you exfoliate, shave, do a hair mask, the works! Take time to do the latter and show your body some love.
1. Massage and moisturize - Moisturizer is key to having healthy-looking, supple skin. It hydrates and helps your skin’s moisture barrier, which can leave you with a glowing complexion. The trick to making your skin look beautiful is by massaging moisturizer into your skin. So the next time you get out of the shower, pat yourself dry, massage your entire body to give yourself a deeper massage for beautiful looking skin!
At the OLVE, we independently select and write about stuff we love and think you'll like too. We are not affiliated nor do we have an advertising partnerships with the brands we may feature.
