When to Splurge and When to Save when Building Your Closet

When it comes to creating the perfect wardrobe, it's all about finding balance. The key is to learn when to save and when to splurge. And sometimes, if you spend more upfront you end up spending less on classic wardrobe pieces in the long run. It has taken us some time to figure this out, but we feel like we have finally gotten it down pack!

If you are looking for a quick easy guideline for when to splurge or save on clothes, here are our tips:

Handbags

Since we tend to carry bags for long periods of time, spending more on a well-made classic is worth the investment.

Pumps (High-Heels)
​

A great pair of heels can take you to new places, as well as elevate nearly any outfit! Invest in a quality pair that are a comfortable and easy to walk in.

Blazer
​

A fitted, long sleeve blazer can instantly crate a chic look. You can’t go wrong with splurging on a well-tailored blazer. .

Jacket
​

For us, this could be a statement piece, where it can make you stand out. Whether it’s a leather or biker jacket, its worth splurging. We try to avoid styles that are too trendy (think of buckles, fringes) as these may become less versatile as anew trend emerges.

Unless its family heirloom or vintage, we recommend skipping and saving your money, as it likely will not be worn frequently.

Jeans

With so many styles to choose from, you are likely going to own way more than just one pair of jeans. Therefore, the cost of investing in multiple pairs of quality jeans far outweighs the value in the long run.

Special Occasion Wear

Your outfit will not be worth the expense of only wearing it once. Our suggestion is to borrow from your friends or rent online at Fitzroy,  or Flaunt Box just to name a few!

Pajamas

It’s worth investing in a good pair of pajamas but we don’t think you need to spend an exuberant amount, opt to for inexpensive ones that will make you feel fancy but  ensure that you’ll stay warm in winter and cool in summer.
