Another Valentine's Day is upon us, and if Valentine's Day isn't a good enough reason to have chocolate covered strawberries for breakfast, than we don't know what is!
Not everyone is into it - but Valentine's Day doesn't have to be spent wth your special someone. It can be a day you spend with your friends, or have a day to yourself. However, if you are like us - you love LOVE! So to help you mark the day, we have some ideas to help you celebrate - either from the comfort of your very own home, or out and about!
It’s a Movie Marathon: Pop some popcorn, make some cheesy snacks, light a mood-setting candle, open up a bottle of wine, and have a movie marathon while snuggling under a blanket in the comfort of your home. Start with an old classic like When Harry Met Sally or venture to discover something new - check out your own streaming service as there are so any to choose from. Or check out what our gal pal (she just doesn't know we're BFFs yet) has suggested here on Oprah Daily
Delicious Breakfast in bed: Simple gestures like breakfast in bed becomes extra special when you take it to the next level. Breakfast in bed—featuring a spread doesn't have to include heart-shaped treats, but it doesn't hurt. Here are some recipes to consider. However, if cooking is not your strong suit, then serve some chocolate croissants or their favourite pastries along with a much needed cup of coffee.
Game Day or Trivia Night: Have fun by busting out a quiz book —it is always fun and surprising to learn new things about your partner go old’ school and play some of your favourite board games in your coziest PJs with plenty of snacks and a bottle of bubbly (and feel free to add a romantic spin to it ;) )
Have a cook off! Make preparing a Valentine's Day meal special by signing up for a virtual cooking class and work together to make that special meal. Even if it doesn't turn out, you will for sure enjoy some laughs and there's always pizza delivery if it doesn't see edible!
Go on a Hike: Put on your warmest winter coat, lace up your hiking boots, and hit your favorite local trail—or an entirely new one. Either way, you are guaranteed to see some stunning scenery, and you will have a chance to catch up without any interruptions or distractions. Explore new outdoor activities: Try something out of your comfort zone—like ice skating, go sledding or even kayaking (if weather permits where you live), try a new sport like skiing or snowboarding. It is never too late to learn! Either way, you are bound to have a fun time because you are in great company and trying something new together.
Ever wanted to check out a new restaurant, but not sure if it is any good? Well take the chance - it is sometimes those subtle, unassuming places that are gems. Take your special someone, or some friends to dinner. If it ends up being great - then you can add that to your list of "must visit again" places. If it isn't, find a fabulous dessert place to take off the edge.
If it is a gift idea you are looking for, exchange heartfelt gifts by shopping local. Instead of ordering on Amazon, why not support local businesses by buying a gift or ordering some delicious treats or your Valentine’s Day meal. Some of our favourite go-to are @justbeatit.six, @crave.doughnuts, and if you want to set the mood, candles from @motherstouchhome has a gorgeous selection and the gift of charcuterie can never go wrong, and you can get beautiful handcrafted boards from @onboardwithsb.
Most of all, today and everyday - find ways to spread kindness. Drop off coffee and treats to a friend that might need some company. Take your kids around the neighbourhood and place painted rocks with messages of love as a gift to the community. Spend the day calling friends near and far - for a quick catch up to show them you care. After a couple years of not being able to get together, we have learned to not take it for granted. Go out, visit, and give your loved ones big hugs - on Valentine's Day and everyday!
