Tell us what you do? and how you came about your side hustle(s)?
Since university, I was fascinated with design and how to transform a functional space using color, textiles and spatial arrangements. I was inspired earlier on by HGTV and designers like Sarah Richardson or Debbie Travis and saw how they would play with colors, fabrics and textiles. I started exploring the idea of going back to school and getting my Interior Design designation and decided to pursue my passion.
I launched Lally Designs shortly after I graduated, and partnered with my husband who's in real estate and started staging his properties. From there, I morphed my business to include homes, properties and remodeling my own home.
I realized early on, the thrill of curating a space rather than just decorating goes way beyond the home or the space. It's about creating a space that is both beautiful and practical; cutting-edge and functional. I love being a part of that journey.

What about your work brings you true joy?
For me, it's about developing designs that reflect my clients ideas, and their interests in the most beautiful and functional way possible.
Its art - combining colours, motifs, furnishings and accessories, it all needs to balance itself while creating a mood or a feeling that shows off the personality of the family that lives there. I love the hand-on aspect which is probably the most rewarding part of the job, from organizing rooms, choosing furniture, and really bringing a design scheme together with finishing touches. It brings me the greatest joy.

What has been your most valuable learnings?
It's really a learn-as-you-go career. There’s so much to learn about interior design and its processes, and you need to constantly move forward to stay relevant. It's not only about staying on top of trends but you will need to now how to interact with builders, architects, and contractors. To become a successful designer, it takes more than creativity, you need to be well-rounded.
One of my favourite quotes is from Nate Berkus -- Your home should tell the story of who you are, and be a collection of what you love!

Anita has truly epitomized what it means to pursue your passions. There is a happiness in doing what you love, whether it be a full-time gig, or something you do in your spare time.
However, before we wrapped up, we had to ask - If you could give your past self any advice, what would it be?
I believe that your best work is done when you do what you genuinely love. Your career should make you feel good emotionally, both in and out of the office.
Looking back at my career, I was fortunate that my Marketing and Creative design degrees allowed me to nurture my passion. I thoroughly enjoyed Marketing, but desperately wanted to explore and fulfill my creative passion in Interior Design.
I was hesitant at first, to follow my dreams and do what I love. I thought about what would my family say, is this too risky, and how will I balance everything? I realized I needed to take that leap for myself, life is too short, I didn't want to have any regrets...and that is how Lally Designs came to be.
My advice, it's never too late to follow your dreams. Whether you take a small step like signing up for classes to launching your own business, just follow your passion. You will never know until you try!
I found my passion and I'm grateful for that. I hope I can inspire others through my story to follow their dreams no matter where they might be on their own personal journey.
