Introducing Adriana Lopez, Founder, SAVOIZ
Adriana Lopez, founder of SAVOIZ. Her company develops sensory swings that are both therapeutic, engaging and fun. She discovered the need after her involvement with a number of sensory groups with her son. She began to understand how many children suffered from under and over sensory stimulation. She wanted to do more for her son and for other children who experienced the same.

Tell us what you do? and how you came about your side hustle(s)?
I wear many hats every day, but my special focus is my company SAVOIZ. I started SAVOIZ after being furloughed in 2020. So, we are still in our first year of operations and very grateful for the support we have received from the community. Our brand is a kid’s brand in a very special niche. Although our products are fun for all kids, they are especially helpful for children with SPD (sensory processing disorder, ADHD and Autism).
We make Sensory swings that are both therapeutic, engaging and fun. This is what allows all kids to benefit from our products. I think having children makes you realize how much they love swings and movement.
During the first few years of motherhood, I was a part of many sensory groups. My son in particular craved sensory stimulation to a point that I was concerned. I tried to give him ways to release his energy safely and these groups definitely helped. It also made me realize how many children suffer from under and over sensory stimulation. The great thing is that swinging works for both. It can help calm, soothe and relax a child that is overwhelmed. It can also be used to gain that extra stimulation through spinning, swinging and engaging your full body in aerial type moves in the swing. It’s the perfect tool. .

What about your work brings you true joy?
The families are the best part. I truly enjoy hearing from people and gaining feedback. We have already made 2 small updates based on good feedback from our customers. When parents reach out and send me pictures and videos of their kids using our swing. They share that their child loves it so much they had to buy a second one for their sibling. How much time they spend in their swing and how much it has impacted their daily life and routine. It’s absolutely the best.
What has been your most valuable learnings?
I learned so many things the entire process was and continues to be a series of learning and failing and getting back at it with more experience. Some of our mistakes early on were a bit expensive. I think marketing and inventory management were our biggest trials and we are honestly still learning.
If you could learn to do anything, what would that be?
Make people feel better. Maybe a superhero that can give our virtual hugs and lift peoples spirit. Because at the end of the day that is what we try to do every day make people happy.
If you could be any fictional character, who would it be and why?
NEO- from the Matrix
It’s all superpowers into 1. You can do anything and essentially create and bend your reality. How awesome is that?
I also do like fiction and especially SCI FI and Fantasy. Stories that could not be in our world. It’s a wonderful way to escape the world to read about these fantasy worlds. The ultimate goal with characters of immense power is responsibility to make the world a better place.
Can you describe an experience/incident that happened that made you a stronger person?
I guess it was having my daughter Sophie. I don’t usually talk about our story. (her and I) Because I don’t want to feel like I am complaining she is such a blessing and I love her so very much. She is my second child so I expected it to be easier. Of course, small things became big things. She had a bit of a rough start with a fever in the first 24 hours and we were hospitalized with 3 days of IV antibiotics which was hard on her little body.
After that she developed digestive issues and a severe case of full body eczema that really tested me. The wake up every 45min – 2 hours lasted for at least 18months and it was health related so I helped her through it and looking back I am surprised I survived it. On the worst nights we wrapped her with those wet wraps head and arms and torso (kind of like a burn victim) to help her cool down and sleep. (Eczema skin can be hot and itchy at night. Really depends on the type).
Today she is thriving and eczema free. That journey is a long story with many things we tried to get to where we are. She does suffer from several allergies and identifying those and healing her gut was key.
I would say that those 18 months were hard. I wondered if I could ever go back to working and being a mom because I was so drained. Haha Now I am working full-time, running Savoiz and launching my blog.
It definitely made me stronger and softer. I cared deeply and suffered greatly with her.. but that’s a mom thing. All moms everywhere suffer with their children and we grow with them.
If you could give your past self any advice, what would it be?
Take risks and start a company. In my case I always wanted to be an entrepreneur, but I never felt ready. I have no issues with starting later but I could have done this a long time ago. When you are young you think you need to learn things first. I spent 16 years learning by working in marketing/sales and honestly, I learned in the past 9 months more than I have learned in 16 years. No matter what you will never be fully ready and that’s OK! You are meant to learn as you go!
Now disclaimer here. I did invest in myself in this process. I got a mentor for brief periods. I watched videos and took a FB ads course. This was part of my learning as I did. As I went through these programs I launched my campaigns. I couldn’t afford a media agency so I had to learn it and do it on my own.
I also believe humans foster a special kind of awakening energy when you create. And sometimes we get stuck thinking creating is for “creative people”. That’s not true. I am not creative, and I do not have special talents. You just have to take the first step.
