Holidazed? Snap Out of It!
How did this year fly by so fast? It was March just a few minutes ago, and now we are in the hustle and bustle of the holidays - during a pandemic, in the middle of a lock-down and have no idea how we have gotten here. Well it's time to get to it. You might feel it is too late to get organized and decorate - I mean you need a wreath or two, a snowman, some reindeer? What else?! However, don't fear - here are some suggestions to get some of the essentials to put your best festive foot forward!
We often check out the Michael's Decor Collections - they group theme and ideas together to help coordinate. It's a great place to get some inspiration. In the meantime, we also included some tips here.

Outdoor accessories
- Grab a wreath, or two if you have a double door. These are found in abundance at stores like Michael's and Canadian Tire. This is a great way to dress up your front porch along with some outdoor Christmas lanterns on your steps (with battery operated candles so you don't have lots of wires everywhere).
- Next, you need lights! If you don't want to go through the trouble fastening lights to your root tops, you can fashion pre-lit garland around your door, or if you choose, on the railings of your porch.
- Lastly, there are some cute pre-lit trees you can place on outdoors, or even wired accessories like boxed gifts or reindeer. These are easy to secure to your yard or garden. This provides a beautiful scene in front of your home.
Indoor accessories:
- Assuming you have a tree (if you don't there are some sales happening right now) - pick up some more ornaments. A tradition in my home includes having the children add one each to the tree for this year, and we get a family ornament marking the year.
- Most homes these days have a propane fireplace and we often long for a real wood burning atmosphere. I often place indoor lanterns (with fire safe batter operated candles) to flank the fireplace to bring that cozy feel together.
- Add some festive colour to your home with cushions, garland over the mantle. Even some cute signs can add to the sentiment of the holidays. Simply lean it over your mantle or on the floor next to some Christmas foliage.
