Last Minute Costume Ideas!
Halloween is here ... and it came unannounced as we were all in the middle of a fall frenzy with back to school only a minute ago. How did it get here so fast? Well either way, we are here - and now we are all running around to find ways to celebrate Halloween and that includes finding the perfect costume.
If you are anything like us - we have the best intensions and promised ourselves last year, that we would have our costumes decided and bought well in advance and win every award at every Halloween Party. However, that is not the case - again this year.
So here are some last minute ideas that we hope can help as you plan to make this Halloween as fun and frightful or adorable as you wish.

Stay Cozy: a warm furry onsie is never a bad idea - especially during our cool Canadian Halloween nights. Adults and kids alike can find their favourite animals in a one piece that can easily fit over your clothes. Make it a modern twist on an old fairy tale: instead of trying to find a ballgown or perfect set of shoes for a princess - use what you have. For instance, if you have long white skirt/pants, a white tank and a jean jacket? re purpose it, iron on a giant rose badge and throw your hair up in a tousled bun - and walk around with a book. BAM! There you have it - you are Belle (in 2020)! Hand me downs! They don't have to be from a sibling .. but perhaps a friend has a costume stored away. Call them up - you can always update it - but more often than not, your friend would love to lend it to you - as no one can be what they were last year! Or can they? We often re-purpose dance costumes. Add warm boots or a sweater underneath, the kids can stay warm and also get another use out of their recital outfit. Rinse & Repeat! If you are anything like us you have quite a few black pieces ... wear it all! Black bottoms and black top. All you need is a black witch's hat and some make-up and you're set. Or grab a set of cat ears, paint on a nose and whiskers, and you are a black cat (a symbol for Halloween) Get Clever: We all have seen those clever costumes over the years. "Bread Winner" - someone carries a loaf of bread, while wearing a medal; Candy bars glued to a t-shirt - and they are a walking candy bar. Or how about an empty egg cart attached to your shirt while you wear devil horns ... there you have it - you're deviled eggs! |
Most important: be safe! Although, we are working towards a new normal and we are hoping to get to the otherside of this pandemic, it is still important to stay safe. Abide by the right protocols and focus on the fun.
