Get Your Home Fall Ready!
With the weather being unpredictable lately, we have had a late start to the cooler fall weather we are used to. Regardless, we are all ready to embrace fall (maybe not the weather, but the decor!). So as you pour yourself some pumpkin spice, it is time to get the house ready for fall. Here are a few things we like to do when it comes to fall decor to make the home a little more cozy and warm.

Preparing Outdoors:
- Plant your spring flowers now in the fall. This is the perfect time to plant tulips or lilies that will eventually grow and bloom next spring.
- Stock up firewood. Who doesn't love sitting around a fire during the chilly fall evenings. This is a good time to stock up on your wood pile for your outdoor fire-pit and eventually your indoor fireplace.
- Store your garden hose and shut off valves for water supply lines that lead to the exterior faucet. This will guard against any leaks inside the walls.
- Hang door wreaths with autumn like flowers and leaves, fall berries, mini gourds. We love these simple welcoming door wreaths which bring together beautiful fall colours before that invite folks into your home
- Litter your porch with an assortment of pumpkins and medium sized gourds - and adding hay bales will help stack your pumpkins at various heights.
- Mums the word (see what we did there) Mums are the perfect fall arrangement for your outdoors to add some vibrant fall colours to your exterior.
Preparing Indoors:
- Take out your cozy blankets and pillows. Give them a good clean and store them in wicker baskets and keep them ready for those cooler nights
- Organize your closet with fall hats, scarves, shoes and jackets so you are ready to go when the Canadian weather changes (which can feel like multiple times in a single day).
- Bring some of the outdoors inside with fall décor including pumpkins or fall foliage, in addition, display some gourds in the kitchen. This adds pops of fall colour to your kitchen and it’s easy to put together. This also adds that flow from the outside in.
- Never underestimate the power of scents. Stock up on some fall scented candles and diffusers. Some popular fragrances include: pumpkin spice, apple, clove, vanilla chai and cinnamon. Some of these scents will take you through the holiday season as well.
