Choose a Date and Time

 Decide on a date and time for your Diwali party. Typically, Diwali is celebrated over five days, with the main day being the third day. However, you can choose a date that works for you and your guests.

Create a Guest List

 Determine the number of guests you want to invite and create a guest list. Diwali is a time for family and friends to come together, so consider inviting people you are close to and who will enjoy the festivities.

Send Invitations

Send out your invitations well in advance. You can use traditional paper invitations, or  Paperless post (which we love). Be sure to include the date, time, location, and any special instructions or dress code. 

Decorations

Diwali is all about lights and color. Decorate your home with traditional Diwali decorations like diyas (oil lamps), rangoli (colorful floor designs), fairy lights, and colorful drapes. You can also add flower arrangements, torans (doorway decorations), and hanging lanterns for an authentic feel. 

Dress Code

Suggest a dress code for your guests, such as traditional Indian attire or festive clothing in bright, vibrant colors.

Food and Drinks

Diwali is a time for delicious Indian cuisine. You can either cook traditional dishes (we love the ideas from the Food Network )at home or order from a local Indian restaurant. Ensure you have a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. Don't forget snacks and sweets as well as  refreshing beverages. May we suggest  a signature Diwali cocktail (we love the ideas curated from Vogue India!).

Entertainment

Plan activities and entertainment for your guests. This could include traditional Indian music, dance performances, or create your own playlist of  your favourite Bollywood tunes. Games, photo booths and activities for both children and adults are always a hit.

Diwali Gifts

Consider exchanging Diwali gifts with your guests. You can provide small, thoughtful gifts like candles, sweets, or traditional Indian handicrafts. We found some cute ideas from Stylecaster and Architectural Digest that we love!  

Fireworks

If it's legal and safe to do so in your area, you can end the evening with a fireworks display. Make sure to follow safety precautions and guidelines. Otherwise, we love using sparklers – it's simple and easy!  

​Safety Precautions: Be mindful of safety during the festivities, especially when using diyas, candles, and fireworks. Ensure there are fire extinguishers and first-aid kits available.
  
Remember that the most important aspect of hosting an epic Diwali party is the joy and togetherness it brings. Diwali is a time of celebration, love, and light. So, make sure your guests feel welcome  enjoy this memorable celebration.
