Clean Beauty Movement Clean, organic, cruelty-free—are buzz words you probably hear all the time. So what does clean beauty even mean? To start, we are learning that definitions are pretty much subjective and vary from company to company, package to package, country to country...making it confusing or hard to decipher the truth.
So we decided to dig a little deeper and learn more about what the buzzwords actually mean.
What is Clean beauty: it prioritizes the source of the ingredient and incorporates natural ingredients that are smarter for the environment and your body. Clean products are without toxic ingredients — like parabens, phthalates, talc, and formaldehyde to name a few.
What does Green mean: its natural and made sustainably, it will not harm the earth through the companies manufacturing or recycling.
Is Natural the same as Organic: Natural and Organic differ. Natural is derived from plants or minerals. While Organic avoids using pesticides, and leverages plant-based ingredients in products wherever possible.
What does Sustainable mean: it means ingredients have been ethically sourced—and the packaging itself is not harmful to the planet.
Vegan the same as Cruelty-free: Vegan doesn't always mean cruelty free. The difference, Vegan means it does not contain any animal by-products or ingredients sourced from animals. However could be tested on animals. Cruelty-free on the other hand, has not been tested at all on animals. We learned that a beauty product can be cruelty-free but not vegan, and vice versa.
